Hi, I’m Gabby!
I bring expertise from years of clinical training and a strong research background, having earned my doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is incredibly important, and I always try to show up in therapy as myself: direct, warm, funny, and curious. While I draw from several different modalities, the core of my work is influenced by humanistic and person-centered perspectives that see you as a person with unique needs, values, and experiences. I believe that there is no “one size fits all” for therapy. I also believe it is important to acknowledge how systemic difficulties can directly impact one’s mental health and physical well-being.
My dissertation focused on the experience of the loss of a future self, or the uniquely painful grief of knowing a dream will never be fulfilled. My research on this topic has given me a deeper understanding of the unspoken losses individuals face daily. Sometimes, mental health struggles can bring about a sense of mourning for the person “I wish I could be.” In my work, I help clients work toward fulfilling that dream.
Originally from the Midwest, I now call Virginia home! Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy hiking local trails, getting lost in a good book, spending quality time with friends, and playing with my two (very spoiled) cats.
I Can Help With
A wide range of concerns, all approached with evidence-based care and genuine curiosity about what makes you, you.
Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome.
